2020-2021 Season kicks off – check out this post for the latest information.

COVID 19 – Please watch for new information re Covid-19 as government changes are implemented.

Up to date COVID 19 signage will be placed along the fence today reminding members of their responsibility to be safe when enjoying their game of bowls. Please enjoy the summer season of bowls whilst still complying with the health requirements for safe distancing and strict personal hygiene through the regular use of hand sanitisers that will be readily available at all clubs. For the time being we will be required to wear face masks when attending bowling clubs and greens.

Taking into consideration that we are coming into the warmer months of the year and are still required to wear masks when at playing venues please ensure you drink water regularly to avoid becoming dehydrated. There has already been incidences in Victorian bowls of players experiencing ill health on warm days that could possibly be attributed to extra heat stress.

BMS has appointed David Berry to be our Club’s COVID safety coordinator. Michael Hampson will be the COVID 19 Marshall for all Tuesday Pennant home games. Please support our Club volunteers by adhering to all COVID 19 safety practices and complying with all directions asked of you to keep our bowls community safe as we navigate ourselves through the current situation. Your understanding and cooperation is appreciated.

The Club has adopted a COVID 19 Safety Management Plan. A copy of the Plan is attached for your further reading and a copy of the Plan is also on display at the bowls green. This Plan will be modified as required as the Victorian State Government review the health regulations applying to COVID safe rules applying to community sport. The Plan is to be read in conjunction with Bowls Victoria return to bowls guidelines, as modified from time to time.

You are required to complete the daily Attendance Register when attending the bowling green recording your name, contact phone number and times that you are at the green. I intend to replace the individual sheets with an exercise book shortly to made this requirement more manageable. We can expect this requirement will be in place for the whole bowls season at all venues.

When playing Pennant bowls it will not be necessary to complete the Attendance Register as a copy of the Pennant sheet will be kept by the Club secretary for the purpose of the Attendance sheet for the afternoon.

Just a friendly reminder that membership fees are now due and ought to be paid prior to commencing playing Pennant bowls.

PIE NIGHT this Thursday’s Practice night

A Pie night will be provided by the Club after practice this Thursday evening. This will be a great opportunity to get together and have a chat about the coming season. President Kevin will be introducing our new members at this event so we look forward to your company.

The Club is on the lookout for new bowlers to take on the game and expand our social network in the Club. If you know anyone who may enjoy taking up the game and enjoy the social company we share please invite them to come along. Free bowls coaching will be gladly be provided by Graeme Inglis (phone 0417 283 670). Thanks GI.

The Club will be raffling a Christmas hamper this year and we ask that you please give consideration to donating something towards the hamper and buy freely of the raffle tickets when they become available. More details please contact Rosie Hickman (phone 5337 6905/0400 310 749).

BMS printed facemasks are available through David Berry at a cost of $15 each.

Those requiring Club Pennant shirts and Club social shirts may do so by contacting David Lindsay.

The new BowlsLink database provides an opportunity for members to supply an emergency contact person reference. Please logon to your membership details and take this opportunity to supply this information.

I advise that entries will be shortly closing for the following events:

·         22/11/2020 – Men & Women Novice Singles

·         28/11/2020 – Mens & Womens Pairs

·         19/12/2020 – Mens & Womens Triples.

If you wish to participate please assist David Lindsay by registering your name on the sheets pinned to the Club’s noticeboard as soon as possible.

I have attached to this email a Newssheet from Ballarat’s Heartbeat organisation for your further information.

I will endeavour to prepare an online copy of a Club Syllabus as soon as possible which I will circulate by email and arrange to have a copy accessible through the Club website. This enable any alteration to be readily incorporate into the document given we can expect there may be changes from time to time as we navigate this very challenging season due to the COVID 19 dilemma.

The BDBD are not circulating a Season’s Handbook this year given the interruptions we have experienced to date due to the health crisis and all bowls information is available on their website:

Visit the Club’s website: or Facebook page:  Ballarat Memorial Sports Bowling Club for more Club information.

Finally Club President Kevin McLean wishes everyone an enjoyable and rewarding season of bowls and we look forward to your company around the Club in what will be an interesting year ahead. Stay safe.
