After persistent rain overnight a grey and sullen morning with gusty winds and showers greeted the players. Amazingly after the 10mm of rain the decision was taken to play on the turf rather than the all weather carpet at Central Wendouree.
The men’s team of D.Schreenan , Keith Urch , Robert Dickinson and Beau Trail faced the Webbconna team and early on were playing well enough but a dropped 6 around the 12th end which started the rot and the rink couldn’t get back into the contest and were beaten soundly.
The woman’s team of Di Hampson , Julie Holton , Judy Lindsay and Lynn Bryce also played Webbconna consisting of a team of four sisters. In a much tighter contest it was shot for shot until a dropped five on the 16th end made the difference of eight shots down. Not giving up the ghost BMS picked up a four on the next end but couldn’t drag the cat back on the last end to get a number.
As an aside there were only six teams each in both the men’s and women’s competitions which for a title that can lead to state finals is very dissapointing.
I would certainly recommend that in future BMS members look at competing in these district titles as they are a chance to play against some good teams and you may surprise yourself with who you can beat.
