NEWS ITEMS – End of February 2023.

*** RESULT – FIRST FINAL – MID-WEEK DIVISION 1 SIDE. – TUESDAY 28TH FEBRUARY. – Our Tuesday Division 1 side won their final against Victoria today by 16 shots. Two rinks up, the third rink down by 5 shots after an unfortunate 7 shots given away late in their game. Rob Dickinson’s rink with Kevin McLean, Lyn Bryce and Bethel Ryan “streaked” away in the second half of their game to win by a very good 14 shots. Jeff Ryan’s rink with Michelle Tait, Linda Johannsen and Geoff Allen also won, up by 7 shots. Our Tuesday 1’s get a break next week – a chance to freshen up for their grand-final game in 2 weeks time. Very well done to our 1’s – you did yourselves and our club proud. It was also great to see a good turn-up of BMS spectators vocally supporting our bowlers.

*** BMS FINALS QUALIFIERS SEASON 2022/23. – Statistically, par for division sides qualifying for finals is 40 %. We have punched above our weight with a 50 % return – 4 sides out of the 8 we have……. Our Tuesday Division 1 side was our first qualifier. Post Saturday’s last round 18, we have an additional 3 qualifiers from our 5 Saturday Pennant sides……. Our Division 1 side finished 2nd and therefore get a finals second chance – they play Victoria next weekend …… Our 3’s finished 3rd and will play Bungaree next weekend……. Our 6’s were arguably our best performed side finishing top of their ladder. They too have a finals second chance and will play Bungaree (also) next weekend. To all of our bowlers in both pennant competitions who are not playing in finals next week, well done for representing the club so well and thank you for your contribution to the overall BMS pennant performance.

*** NEW SCOREBOARD – The new digital scoreboard was used for the first time today in the Division 3 game against Buninyong. It was a resounding success – it’s a terrific advantage to have scores and the state of the game available to all bowlers and spectators not too long after each of the ends are finished. Would a refinement in a close game or a feature game be to update the scores every end (instead of every second end)?

*** MICK’S WEEKLY JACKPOT – Has gone off. If you missed out, look forward to trying your luck again next season.
