Postponement of Club’s Annual General Meeting
The Club’s Management Committee have agreed to postpone the Club’s AGM to September, 2020 to a date to be confirmed, as a result of the current COVID 19 health crisis. We are investigating the possibility of using social media facilities to transmit the AGM through the internet so that those of our members who wish to participate in the AGM but retain their social distancing by staying at home can do so using this feature.
When the meeting is held it may be necessary to partition the meeting into separate rooms to ensure the Club complies with the State’s health restrictions for the number of persons attending social gatherings.
In the meantime every effort will be made to keep members informed through emails forwarded by the Club secretary.
Club Nominations – AGM meeting
Nominations for Club positions are now open so please put your name down on the sheets pinned to the noticeboard if you are interested in any of the listed positions. As our Club’s AGM has had to be postponed to September, 2020 nominations will be received up to a week before the meeting is held.
2020-2021 Pennant Bowls
The Ballarat District Bowls Division is navigating its way through the COVID 19 crisis in their planning for the coming bowls season. There will be a meeting of Club President’s on Saturday 25th July to discuss this matter and when further information is received the Club will distribute the news to the members.
At the Club’s AGM President Kevin will also update members of the latest news concerning the planned BDBD pennant competition for the coming bowls season and what measures being put in place to provide protection to bowlers participating in pennant matches from the COVID 19 virus.
Members are permitted to practice to the Southern green and in compliance with the restrictions that have been agreed to by Bowls Victoria and Recreation Sports Victoria. Signs have been placed around the green with information on these restrictions.
At all times bowlers are requested to comply with COVID 19 safety practices; particularly social distancing, use of the hand sanitisers provided and completing the attendance register. Members must fully complete the Attendance Register. THIS INCLUDES YOUR PHONE NUMBER CONTACT & FULL NAME.
The Management Committee have permitted City Oval Bowling Club bowlers reciprocal rights during the winter months to access our Southern bowling green (the North green is closed this winter for maintenance reasons)subject to the normal COVID 19 restrictions applying. To gain access to the green their Club members must make contact with an existing BMS Club member and coordinate their attendance in line with the attendance of another BMS bowler practicing at the time. THEY MUST COMPLETE & SIGN THE ATTENDANCE REGISTER which must be shown to them by the BMS member. The bowling green must be closed and secure on the departure of all bowlers.
Also please highlight the hand sanitiser the Club has available for use of bowlers.
Alfredton Recreation Reserve Redevelopment
State Government and Local Government funding have been finalised for the redevelopment of facilities at the Alfredton Recreation Reserve and the project is now proceeding to the final design process.
President Kevin will brief members on the latest news on the development of Alfredton recreation reserve facilities at our rescheduled Annual General Meeting which has been postponed till September, to a date to be confirmed later.
The Club thanks Cameron Bryce and Craig Hurdsfield for their excellent work in representing our Club at the various meetings held to develop new facilities for the recreation reserve and secure suitable social clubrooms for the use by bowlers.
Due to the restrictions applying to social gatherings this function has been postponed to Friday 2nd October, 2020 subject to the lifting of State health restrictions (re COVID 19) applying to indoor social gatherings at this time. All tickets purchased will be valid for the new date. Those who wish to have their tickets refunded can apply to have this done; contact Treasurer John Bettles.
Department of Sport & Recreation Victoria have awarded the Club a $1,000 grant under the State’s Community Sport Sector Short-term Survival Package. This money will go towards the extra costs the Club is incurring to purchase supplies that ensures the safety of members at the club from the current health crisis.
The following new members have been accepted into the Club – Tim Shearer, Dean Adams and John Rowland. If you see them on the green or in the clubhouse please introduce yourself and give them a hearty BMS welcome.
The office of Bowls Victoria is closed till late August, 2020 due to COVID 190 restrictions applying to Metropolitan Melbourne. Contact with the office may be made by email or alternative telephone contact may be used.
It is pleasing to record that Life Member Kevin Mead celebrated his 90th birthday on Friday 3rd July. Best wishes Kevin on this great achievement and well done!

Anne & Wally Mason
Anne and Wally Mason have moved to Lakes Entrance as of June. The Club thanks Anne for her past contribution to the fun times we shared at our Social functions and for all Wally’s help with the greens, serving on the Saturday match committee and as a past member of the Club’s Management Committee. We wish them great times ahead in their new home at Lakes Entrance.
VALE – Glenise Braybrook
Our condolences are extended to member Anthony Braybrook and the Braybrook family on the sad loss of Anthony’s wife, Glenise, who passed away in early July.
Appreciation – Volunteers in maintaining the green
Appreciation is extended to our Greens Director GI and his volunteers in maintaining our greens through the winter break. The northern green is closed this winter for maintenance and you may practice, subject to social distancing, on the South green.
President Kevin passes on his best wishes to you and your family at this very difficult time. Please exercise caution when you are out in public at keep to social distancing and use the necessary hygiene practices such as regular use of hand sanitisers for your own safety.
